WRAP UP YOUR TOOLS FOR WINTER WITH WD-40
With nights drawing in and most of the jobs in the garden such as planting, pruning and cutting back all but finished for the year, it is time to take a well earned rest and put your tools away.
But if you don't want the expense of buying new next Spring, it is worth giving your tools a spot of tender loving care before consigning them to the back of the shed.
One of the best ways of maintaining spades, forks, rakes, hoes, shears and the like is to spray them with WD-40, Britain's number one selling multi-purpose spray.
The advice comes from TV favourite 'Handy' Andy Kane.
"Good gardening tools are expensive to replace but if you look after them well, then they can last for years. The answer is to use WD-40 which cleans, lubricates and protects against rust and corrosion," says Andy.
"Follow these simple tips and your garden tools will come out next Spring looking like new."
  • Generously spray hinges on pruning shears and secateurs to stop rusting and prevent them from sticking
  • Remove all dirt from spades, rakes, forks and hoes with a squirt of WD-40 before wiping them clean. Add a final spray as a protective layer.
  • Make sure lawnmowers are free from grass before putting them away by liberally spraying WD-40 onto the blades and wiping with a clean cloth
  • Apply WD-40 onto wheelbarrow wheels so they are squeak free when you wheel the barrow out next year and also into the wheelbarrow base to clean and protect against rust
  • Prevent any rust forming on electric or moving blades by liberally spraying with WD-40. Spray it on your hedge trimmer, strimmer, leaf blower and de-mosser for perfect results.
WD-40 is a multi-purpose spray, which cleans, protects, lubricates and drives out moisture, it's the most useful spray around the home, garden, garage and workplace. It has literally thousands of different uses. To discover a list of over 2,000 uses, click here.
