| ANDY REID GIVES TOP TIPS FOR BIKE MAINTENANCE |
Everyone knows that WD-40 is the best protector against rust and corrosion in the home and garden. But what many people don't know is that it is also the perfect companion on the motocross course.
Andy Reid, the 10-year-old motocross dynamo uses WD-40 on a regular basis to maintain his bike and keep it in great working condition.
Andy became a competitive motocross rider when his parents bought him his first bike, a Kawasaki 65, for his 8th birthday. A natural from the start, Andy has now been riding for 2 years and is currently leading the Ulster Supercross Series and is in 4th position in the British Championship. Andy has been trained by Rob Hearn, ten times British Motocross Champion. He looks set to become a big star in the motocross world.
Andy has some hot tips to share for other motocross and bike enthusiasts on how to get the best results from using WD-40.
Andy keeps his bike named 'The Black Beast' by the Irish racer in top condition by spraying it generously with WD-40: "If you want your bike to look brand new each time you pull up to the start gate, spray your machine with WD-40 fifteen minutes beforehand. Take care not to get it near hand grips, the seat and the air filter."
Andy can jump distances of over 60 feet on his bike, which means it's important that he keeps his machine running smoothly during a race. He says: "If you want your wheels to run really free, which can help if you do 'big air', just put a squirt of WD-40 into the wheel bearings."
The nature of the motocross track means that race conditions are often muddy. To combat this Andy gives the following advice: "I spray the whole bike with WD-40, especially below the mud guards so when I come in and wash the bike the dirt just falls off. And for a super free running drive chain on my machine, I always use lots of WD-40, this helps as the mud doesn't stick to your chain, it just rolls off."
As a final post race tip Andy says: "When all the business is done on race day to keep my machine in top condition and to stop any parts rusting I spray my bike all over again with WD-40, it's as simple as that!!!!"
WD-40 is a multi-purpose spray, which cleans, protects, lubricates and drives out moisture, it's the most useful spray around the home, garden, garage and workplace. It has literally thousands of different uses. For a full list of over 2,000 uses, click here. |
